It’s official! On 22nd June 2014, the team at Each One Teach One will embark on a major sweat-busting challenge; as we take to the streets of East London for a 13 mile summer stint of Run Hackney. The day will see the borough close off its roads to the domination of cars and instead give a warm welcome to the thousands of motivated runners that will be taking part in the event. So, with our team at the ready, our running shoes laced and every ounce of determination fuelled, we are set to make our mark – wish us luck!
Here’s what team EOTO have to say about the upcoming half marathon:
“I’d say I’m equally petrified and excited about doing the Run Hackney half marathon. I’ve never been very consistent when it comes to exercise and wouldn’t say I was a natural runner at all (only ever done a couple of 5K’s) but have been moaning about needing to get fit for years and I like a challenge!
I started training 3 weeks ago and have just begun the main 12 week training plan. So far have been getting out 2-3 times a week which is great but it’s been much more walking than running, lots of chest burning and swearing and I’m already super impressed at anyone who does this all the time! Getting inspired by lots of people I know who run including the brilliant Charlie Dark and the Run Dem Crew (http://www.rundemcrew.com/).
The geek in me is loving using the Nike+ app to log my distance and then sharing them on social networks like Instagram. It’s going to be a LOT of hard work and I’m sure there will be many ups and downs but glad there is a team of us and that we are doing it to raise money for more brilliant projects with young people. Must. Keep. Moving….” – Sarah McLoughlin
“I couldn’t think of a more apporopriate event to get involved with and raise money for EOTO so they can continue their great work! Running through East London, to help benefit other young people in East London – that outshines the 13 miles, ask me how I feel about that at the finish line!” – Paddy Ellis
“I love the idea of us at EOTO taking part in Run Hackney. I’m a complete novice when it comes to running and have never contemplated the idea of doing something like this before; however, I’m definitely not one to shy away from a challenge and the additional motivation from doing this as a team is certainly empowering. My training so far has been going better than I expected it would, once I got my first few sessions out of the way I began to develop a flow which I am continuously building on – then I remember the 13 mile run is just 12 weeks away and do begin to question my sanity a little. With all the doubts and hard work, I know this is going to be a truly amazing experience and real achievement once completed, plus we are going to be raising money for a cause that’s close to all of our hearts. What more motivation do you need? ” – Demi Leigh McGrane
We will be running in aim to raise money and help to continue our on going support to young people across the boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets.
